Nature and Sustainable Development in the Media, Between Myths and Reality: The Impact of Misinformation and Narratives on Conservation Policies

The media plays an essential role in shaping perceptions about nature, conservation, and development, and the way these subjects are presented can directly influence: the general public opinion and the level of acceptance towards conservation, public policy decisions, the activity of governmental or non-governmental organizations, sustainable development processes and sustainable resource management, and not least, the way natural and cultural values of protected areas are affected. Simplified, polarizing, or incomplete narratives, the spread of misinformation or half-truths, as well as political and economic pressures on public discourse, can contribute to blocking or diluting essential initiatives for biodiversity conservation. In this context, the relationship between journalists, civil society organizations, public institutions, and other relevant actors becomes critical for the efficient functioning of the nature protection system.   Event Concept The event proposes a debate that brings to the forefront the connection between how nature is represented in the media and society's ability to build and implement effective conservation policies.   The starting point is a fundamental question: how do dominant narratives about nature influence the success or failure of conservation initiatives?   The debate will bring together journalists, environmental organization representatives, protected area managers, experts, and potentially public decision-makers, in a dialogue that aims to go beyond the general level of discussions and explore concrete experiences, real tensions, and collaboration opportunities.   Instead of a unilateral approach, the event creates a space where each actor can reflect on their own role: how they contribute to shaping public perceptions, what constraints they face, and what they could do differently to support a more nuanced and constructive discourse about biodiversity.   Additionally, common problems that would benefit from common solutions may be identified. We aim not just for a discussion but for alignment of perspectives and the generation of a set of useful viewpoints for the next stages – ideas generated and proposals will be noted, so that in the end, we have some solution proposals.

Lemn Vechi și Nou - Târg de mobilier upcycled

Launched for the first time in 2023 on International Forest Day, "Old and New Wood - Upcycled Furniture Fair" reopens its doors for its second edition on April 26, 2024. For 4 days, creatives from all spheres gather in Slănic-Moldova, Bacău county, to celebrate a unique initiative in Romania to save forests by recycling old wood and transforming it into contemporary design elements, as a manifesto against consumerism and an example of involvement and innovation in the ecological transition. As with the first edition, the main venue for the fair is Centrala Artelor In Context, itself an upcycling project and a landmark on Romania's creative hub map: a former thermoelectric power plant, which now has a pink tower and a facade designed by Dan Perjovschi. Satellite events and artistic interventions will take place in the resort amid nature. Locations will be announced in the period leading up to the opening. This year, the project team's activity focused on restoring chairs, as a tribute to the most complex piece of furniture, but also the one with the greatest potential for creative and educational impact. Upcycled chairs from Centrala can become, through collaborations with the HORECA segment, ambassadors of the transition to a sustainable lifestyle. The chairs that will be presented in this edition of the Old and New Wood fair were recovered directly from the communities of the region and were transformed within strategic partnerships that the In Context Slănic Moldova Art Association concluded with two educational institutions in Bacău county: the G. Apostu Bacău National College of Art and the Târgu Ocna Educational Center. These will be judged and auctioned on April 27. The income obtained from sales will be directed towards equipping the project's collaborating workshops, in order to increase the impact and the quantity of bulky waste diverted from landfill. In the year since its launch, the project has furnished private residences and cafes with upcycled furniture such as Replace at 23 Armenească Street, Bucharest, participated in creative events that promote sustainability such as Comunidar at Mezanin Market, Romanian Design Week and Trifoi Fest, being among the finalists at the Green Gala Awards 2023 organized by the Romania Green Building Council. Starting in 2024, the In Context Slănic Moldova Art Association has become the Zero Waste Romania representative in Bacău county. Mountains, forests, mineral springs, furniture painting workshops and zero waste – it only happens in Slănic, the Pearl of Moldova! For more details: contact@incontext.art; Tel. +40 723 352 010

Conferința Națională: "Economia Circulară în Practică: Provocări și Soluții pentru Gestionarea Deșeurilor Municipale"

Reciclyng International Magazine (publisher of INFOMEDIU EUROPA magazine) and the Federation of Intercommunity Development Associations (FADI) invite you to the National Conference: "Circular Economy in Practice: Challenges and Solutions for Municipal Waste Management", which will take place on October 24, 2023, in the "Nicolae Iorga" Hall, Romanian Parliament. This event is organized in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests (MMAP) and brings together numerous experts, government officials, and industry representatives to discuss and develop solutions for efficient municipal waste management, within the context of the circular economy. In the noisy landscape of public events of all kinds, such a conference has – and more importantly, will have in the future! – great significance, linked above all to human and environmental health. All these aspects are covered in the sessions of the National Conference on the circular economy – they may have different titles, but the content circularly returns to a central point: the health of the individual and society. Delegating activities in the municipal waste management flow: The conference will analyze recent legislative changes and seek solutions for the efficient implementation of the entire municipal waste management system, ensuring the continuity of services in SMID. Management of packaging waste from municipal waste: Aspects related to cost coverage, traceability, and delimitation of responsibilities between ULAs/IDAs will be discussed, as well as the preparation of sorting reports. Contracting by PROs of packaging quantities generated in areas delegated through IDAs: The process of concluding contracts between IDAs and PROs will be addressed, as well as ways to promote efficient collaboration. Development of recycling infrastructure by accessing non-reimbursable funds: The importance of accessing non-reimbursable funds for the development of recycling infrastructure in Romania will be discussed. Impact of the Deposit Return System on waste management: The introduction of the Deposit Return System, which will lead to increased efficiency in packaging waste collection, may generate a change in the integrated waste management system, regarding the fulfillment of objectives assumed through projects implemented with the support of European funds. It necessitates the revision of WMMs, balancing delegated contracts, and resizing the collection and sorting capacities of recyclable fractions. Development of waste treatment and energy recovery infrastructure: Necessary investments for the development of composting and biodegradable waste recovery infrastructure will be discussed. This conference brings together stakeholders to discuss and develop solutions for more efficient municipal waste management, contributing to the promotion of a more sustainable circular economy in Romania. *** About MMAP The Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests (MMAP) is responsible for drafting and implementing government policy in the field of environmental protection and waste management in Romania. *** About Reciclyng International Magazine Reciclyng International Magazine is the publisher of INFOMEDIU EUROPA magazine, the most important environmental magazine in Romania, published monthly, the only Romanian niche publication printed 100% on recycled paper, correspondent of Deutsche Presse-Agentur. *** About FADI The Federation of Intercommunity Development Associations (FADI) represents and promotes the interests of IDAs in Romania and contributes to the development of effective solutions for municipal waste management.

Vocea Pământului - Atelier de dezvoltare a rezilienței climatice

💫We invite you to a transformative group process aimed at awakening motivation, connection, solidarity, and developing resilience in the face of global and individual challenges. In these times of immense uncertainty, caused by climate change, pandemics, and wars, where the sixth extinction continues to accelerate, and inequalities and racism are increasingly visible, there is great potential for transformation. Creativity, courage, and collective actions can change the way the ecological and political landscape is cultivated for future generations. This is a time when many of us are seeking ways to reconnect with each other, with ourselves, with the living planet of which we are a part, and to contribute our own gifts to the change we wish to see in the world. Of all the dangers we face, none is more perilous than our lack of response, as Joanna Macy, the initiator of The Work That Reconnects group processes, argues. We often experience despair, anger, fear, and exhaustion in the process of navigating these times, and sometimes it's easier to turn our backs and withdraw. However, through this suppression and numbness, we hinder our ability to respond and process information. The energy we use to cover up and hide the despair we experience is diverted from being put to use for the world, exhausting the necessary capacities for resilience and imagination. With the help of connection with ourselves and with others, and by acknowledging the reality of these things, we can find the courage to continue. In this 3-hour workshop, we will journey through the 4 stages of The Work That Reconnects spiral: Gratitude, Honoring our Pain for the World, Seeing with New Eyes, Going Forth. This is a process of transforming helplessness into intentional action, while also serving as a nourishing wellspring for us. Through a series of creative and experiential exercises, The Work That Reconnects opens up space to connect with the pain that exists in the world and find the strength needed to take the next step, all while being supported by a group. It is rooted in deep ecology, systems theory, and spiritual traditions, in the experiential methods and teachings of Joanna Macy, the initiator of these processes. Where? Arți-Crafți Hubtelier (Sports Hall area, the exact location will be sent by email after registration) When? Friday, October 13, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Cost? FREE How do I register? By filling out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc2fAf1ii1f1JlPMpaTpJSiw9T9jk4fWkdmW6JZybJ9UK6Blw/viewform With whom? Alexandra Brînzac - psychologist, graduate of the Master's program in Psychodiagnosis, Unifying Experiential Psychotherapy and Personal Development (P.E.U), with experience in non-formal education and a great passion for ecopsychology, Nature-based therapies, forest bathing, and deep ecology. She facilitates workshops and learning and growth spaces, designed to reconnect people with the web-of-life of which we are a part, with the rhythms and seasons of Nature. In the last year, she has also worked on and facilitated spaces focused on the topic of climate anxiety and eco-emotions, cultivating resilience in the context of the climate crisis. These are inspired by The Work That Reconnects, a method initiated by Joanna Macy. The workshop is part of the "There is No Away" project - co-funded by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund (AFCN). "There is no away" is a participatory activation project through art, which proposes a subjective exploration of the relationship with produced waste, respectively with one's own garbage, through a series of photo-ecoperformative experiments, as well as a public dialogue that questions sustainable practices, both at an individual level and within the common social sphere. The project does not necessarily represent the position of the National Cultural Fund Administration. AFCN is not responsible for the content of the project or how the project results may be used. These are entirely the responsibility of the funding beneficiary.

ESG:ro 2023 - eveniment hibrid

BusinessMark Since 2013, we have been organizing business events, mainly "own concept" events, designed and planned by us, from idea and concept to implementation. We have an "all-industries" approach and dedicate projects to a wide range of industries and professional fields. We want to "leave our mark" on the professional lives of participants, to make a concrete impact. We aim to create contexts for exchange of experience and creation of ideas, contexts for development, for being inspired and finding the right partners.ESG (Environment, Social & Governance) has been discussed for two decades, but only in January 2023 did the CSRD directive come into force, granting member states 18 months to integrate it into national legislation. Thus, starting from 2024, companies with a turnover of over 40 million euros and/or total assets greater than 20 million euros and/or over 250 employees will be obliged to report sustainability results. Small and medium-sized enterprises listed on regulated EU markets will have until January 1, 2026, to comply with reporting requirements. Throughout this period, the lack of a unified international standard for companies to follow has become increasingly pressing, as the importance of non-financial reporting in creating medium- and long-term value has become more evident. Beyond the role of non-financial reporting in combating the risks humanity faces – pollution, global warming, poverty, social conflicts – ESG standards also contribute to a better understanding of the organization and its role in the global economy. ESG implies better long-term investment planning, reduction of energy and resource costs, optimization, increased customer loyalty, increased brand value, and improved access to resources. How do ESG indicators help us ensure the stability/continuity of the organization in the medium and long term? How do these elements contribute to better employee retention in the company, their well-being, and gaining the loyalty of all actors involved in the business? How can we transition to a green business, to a more sustainable business? What challenges arise in this transition? What are the obstacles in applying ESG standards? But what about the financial opportunities? We will discuss all these at the first edition of ESG:ro, an event that will take place in person, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bucharest, but also virtually, on May 26, 2023. Event Tags:

NU cedăm Parcul IOR

𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 (𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟱), 𝗮𝘁 𝟭𝟮.00 𝗽.𝗺., we invite all citizens concerned, outraged, or simply curious about what is happening with the retroceded area of IOR Park. We will meet at the 𝗧𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, to witness the destruction in our beloved park and discuss legal solutions to protect and reintegrate this green area into IOR-Titan Park. Citizens' interests must be prioritized over private interests. This is not just about IOR or Titan, but about all of Bucharest. Come with your family, friends, and neighbors for a peaceful gathering of our community! IMPORTANT: This is a civic and non-partisan action. 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲? The I.O.R. Civic Initiative Group is a group of citizens living around IOR Park who want this natural oasis, which holds a special place in our hearts, to be whole again and protected, no longer systematically destroyed by real estate interests, irresponsible entrepreneurs, or indifferent authorities. We want more green space for the neighborhood and less concrete. This shared goal has brought together people of very different ages, concerns, mentalities, lifestyles, etc. We all intersected through IOR Park, and now the park brings us together in a community that wants to change things for the better for the neighborhood and the city. Perhaps sometimes we have different visions of life or society, but now we all need to speak with one voice: We will not give up IOR Park; we want the green space back for the community! IMPORTANT: The group's activity is civic, non-partisan, and non-profit.

Reciclezi Economisești ed.3

The "Recycle and Save" campaign is aimed at those who love Nature and understand the need for common involvement. Do you love candles, experiencing the well-being offered by a scented, eco-friendly, and biodegradable vegetable wax candle? Do you have containers from former candles, jars up to 150g, glass cups, ceramic mugs, clay items that take up space and you don't know what to do with them? Bring them to us! You get: ✔ 5% discount on the value of a candle bought from us for a recycled container ✔ 10% discount if you bring at least 2 recycled containers. You can either order a scented candle from us or choose another container from those available on our shelves. Campaign details: - Takes place through a physical meeting - We meet at Sara Green, Lascăr Catargiu nr. 43A, sector 1 Bucharest, October 29th 12:00 AM - 2:00 PM, November 30th 12:00 AM - 2:00 PM - Confirm your participation in the event and stay tuned for future announcements. We have a lot to do this month. - Attention❗❗❗ Containers must be clean, without chips, cracks, plastic, or overly strange shapes into which candle wax cannot be poured - Before coming to collect, ask yourself if you would buy a candle in that container. Not all containers are useful in the workshop, which means we will not recycle some of them. Recycling started in August and will take place monthly until December. I look forward to meeting you and together doing good for the environment we live in and in which our descendants will live! Let's celebrate the end of October together and prepare some authentic surprises 🎉. We await you with Peace and Light!
