Conference on Forests and Green Investments
The conference, attended by ministers, MEPs and key decision-makers, aims to bring forests to the forefront of future European funding policies. Although they cover 43.5% of the EU territory, contribute EUR 520 billion to the European economy and support over 2.6 million jobs, their dedicated funding remains below 1% of the CAP budget. Starting from the current imbalances in EU funding, we will discuss the opportunities that the Multiannual Financial Framework, currently under debate, brings:
- To support the creation of a dedicated financing mechanism for forests within the future European multiannual budget.
- To highlight the role of forests as a strategic sector for achieving climate, biodiversity and sustainable economic development objectives.
- To promote a fair system for compensating forest owners for the valuable ecosystem services they provide.
- To support the development of a sustainable forest bioeconomy, based on coherent policies and strategic investments.
