ECO-FAMILIES: How can families and educators become ambassadors of sustainability?

In the context of current challenges posed by climate change, excessive resource consumption, and the need for a green transition at the European level, education for sustainability becomes a priority. However, for the change to be real and lasting, it must start within the family. Based on this idea, the European project ECO-FAMILIES aims to transform parents and educators into true promoters of a sustainable lifestyle. Funded through the Erasmus+ program, the project brings together organizations from Poland, Belgium, Cyprus, Romania, and Greece and aims to develop green skills for adults, educators, and families.

Over 30 guided tours, hikes, and nighttime experiences: what you shouldn't miss at Făgăraș Fest 2026

Făgăraș Fest 2026 brings, between July 10 and 12, to Sebeșu de Sus, the most diverse and complex series of guided tours so far – over 30 nature experiences that take participants out of the spectator zone and directly into the heart of the Făgăraș Mountains. In a single weekend, you can reach waterfalls, observe birds at sunrise, discover traces of wild animals, and see the Făgăraș Mountains at night, alongside specialists. From the early hours of the morning until after nightfall, the festival offers a program that transforms each day into an authentic exploration. Participation is done in small groups, alongside guides and specialists, making the difference between a walk and an unforgettable experience. The complete program is available at https://fagarasfest.ro. The Făgăraș Mountains, discovered step by step The guided tours take participants into the heart of nature in Valea Moașei, where every step becomes a discovery: from plants and insects to how all these are interconnected and contribute to nature's balance. In fauna or bird-watching tours, participants learn to read nature's signs: tracks, sounds, and behaviors that tell the story of wildlife in the Făgăraș Mountains. For those who want to explore further, hikes to the waterfalls on Valea Moașei or trails to Cabana Suru offer the perfect combination of effort, scenery, and explanations about the mountainous area. The program brings together experiences for all types of participants, from those who want to explore at a relaxed pace to those seeking adventure: hikes to the waterfalls on Valea Moașei and Cabana Suru fauna tours – bats, beavers, insects, and other wildlife explorations dedicated to flora, mushrooms, trees, and biodiversity bird watching and nature photography family experiences — “Explorers of the Făgăraș Mountains” cultural tours through the village of Sebeșu de Sus tours about the life of the Valea Moașei river Each tour offers a different perspective on nature and the relationship between people and this landscape. After nightfall, nature looks different Some of the most sought-after experiences at Făgăraș Fest take place after nightfall. The nocturnal tours dedicated to bats reveal an invisible world during the day, using special equipment that transforms ultrasounds into something you can hear and understand on the spot. Tours about river life, those dedicated to insects or mushrooms, and artificial fly fishing experiences offer different perspectives on nature. Participants discover not only the technique but also the delicate balance of aquatic ecosystems and learn how wild animals are monitored, through tracks and non-invasive technologies, as well as coexisting with wildlife. The tours are not just simple walks but opportunities to understand how nature works, from the relationships between species to the role of each element in the ecosystem. Nature, community, and experiences for all ages “Explorers of the Făgăraș Mountains” turns nature exploration into a team adventure for children and parents, with challenges, games, and interactive discoveries. The “Gifts of Nature” hike offers a guided incursion into the forests of Valea Moașei, where participants learn what responsible hiking means: from equipment and safety to how we can enjoy nature with minimal impact. “The Bat Corner” combines science with creativity. Participants listen to ultrasounds, discover the role of bats in the ecosystem, and learn, through creative activities, how they can contribute to their protection. Through guided tours in the village of Sebeșu de Sus, participants discover the history, identity, and people of the place and better understand the community. Exploration on two wheels For those who want to cover more ground, the festival includes guided electric bike tours on 12–16 kilometer trails around Sebeșu de Sus, in small groups, with equipment included. The freeride option offers the freedom to explore the area at your own pace. The Făgăraș Mountains are not just seen… they are heard, smelled, understood. At Făgăraș Fest, everything that is not seen is felt. Făgăraș Fest is a festival organized by the Conservation Carpathia Foundation and the Racovița Commune City Hall. Now in its 7th edition, the event takes place from July 10–12, on Valea Moașei, at Sebeșu de Sus, in a remarkable natural setting, where participants can discover nature through guided tours, hikes, outdoor activities, and concerts.
