Why is such a project necessary?
Children primarily learn through observation. Consumption habits, attitudes towards the environment, the way we manage waste or use resources are behaviors formed within the family and influenced by the examples set by adults.
Although there are numerous resources about sustainability, many of them are fragmented, too technical, or difficult to apply in everyday life. ECO-FAMILIES aims to address this need through practical, digital, and accessible tools that help parents and educators turn information into action.
The main objective of the project is for parents to become “Eco-Ambassadors”, capable of imparting values, behaviors, and skills necessary for building a more sustainable future to their children.
Main results of the project
- ECO-FAMILIES course for developing green skills
One of the most important outcomes is the development of a training program dedicated to parents and educators. The course covers topics such as:
- responsible consumption;
- energy and water saving;
- waste reduction;
- sustainable mobility;
- responsible eating;
- carbon footprint;
- community involvement and active citizenship.
The materials are designed in a practical manner and aim to change daily behaviors, not just convey information.
- ECO-Living mobile app
At the heart of the project is an innovative mobile app that allows users to evaluate their own behaviors and receive personalized recommendations for a more sustainable lifestyle.
The app includes:
- assessments of family habits;
- self-assessment tools for green skills;
- personalized recommendations;
- practical activities for the whole family;
- progress monitoring;
- support through artificial intelligence.
Through the app, sustainability becomes a concrete and measurable process, not just an abstract concept.
- Green Portal
The Green Portal functions as a digital library of educational resources and contains:
- guides and educational materials;
- examples of best practices;
- articles and studies;
- podcasts;
- video infographics;
- learning and self-assessment tools.
It offers free access to updated information and can be used both individually and in educational contexts.
- Glossary and QR code-based activities
An especially innovative outcome is the system of interactive activities based on QR codes. By scanning the codes, users can access:
- definitions and explanations of sustainability concepts;
- challenges and educational games;
- family activities;
- reflection exercises;
- practical examples of sustainable behaviors.
These resources can be placed in schools, libraries, community centers, parks, or educational trails and allow learning in an attractive and accessible way.
- Methodological guide for educators
The project also develops a methodological guide for educators, trainers, and organizations wishing to implement sustainability education activities. The guide includes:
- methods for working with adults;
- family activities;
- workshop examples;
- facilitation techniques;
- recommendations for using the digital tools developed in the project.
This will allow the multiplication and transfer of results to other organizations and communities.
How can the project results be used?
In schools
Teachers and educational counselors can use:
- the ECO-Living app in extracurricular activities;
- QR codes for educational trails;
- materials from the Green Portal for interdisciplinary lessons;
- the methodological guide for developing environmental projects.
Additionally, schools can create “ECO-FAMILIES Corners” where students and parents can discover the project resources.
In universities
Universities can integrate the project results into:
- teacher training programs;
- service learning projects benefiting the community.
Students can use the tools to analyze their own environmental impact and develop community initiatives.
In vocational education and training (VET)
The project results are relevant for numerous professional fields:
- tourism;
- public catering;
- retail and services.
Green skills are becoming increasingly important in the job market, and ECO-FAMILIES resources can contribute to their development.
In communities and public administrations
Municipalities and NGOs can use:
- QR activities in parks and community centers;
- the app for awareness campaigns;
- ECO-FAMILIES festivals for citizen engagement;
- educational materials to promote sustainable development goals.
These activities can be easily integrated into existing events such as Earth Day, European Green Week, or local environmental campaigns.
The role of CNPCD in Romania
In Romania, the project is implemented by the National Center for Sustainable Production and Consumption (CNPCD), an organization with experience in resource efficiency, circular economy, green entrepreneurship, and sustainability education. CNPCD conducts research, training, and consultancy activities and collaborates with schools, universities, companies, NGOs, and public authorities to promote sustainable development.
Moreover, CNPCD is actively involved in the European Climate Pact community, collaborating with a network of approximately 60 climate ambassadors who contribute to promoting sustainability initiatives and multiplying the impact of European projects at local and regional levels.
Conclusion
ECO-FAMILIES demonstrates that the transition to a sustainable lifestyle does not begin in laboratories or conference rooms, but in our homes. By combining education, technology, and community involvement, the project offers concrete tools that can help families reduce their environmental impact and pass on responsible values and behaviors to future generations.
More than an educational project, ECO-FAMILIES represents a model of collaboration between families, educators, communities, and organizations, demonstrating that change is possible when learning turns into action.
