The Coalition for Gender Equality was established in 2014, at the initiative of five non-governmental organizations in the field of women's rights (Partnership for Equality Center, Front Association, AnA Feminist Analysis Society, Association for Freedom and Gender Equality, and E-Romnja Association) which had collaborated since 2009-2010 to organize feminist actions in the public sphere on the topic of gender equality and violence against women.
The Coalition was created within the project "Coalition for Gender Equality", financed through EEA Grants 2009-2014 under the NGO Fund in Romania. Subsequently, other non-governmental organizations joined the Coalition, with the total number of members currently being 11.
