Step 3 for a Sustainable Lifestyle
If you've decided to change your lifestyle and become more responsible, more sustainable, and more ecological, but you don't know where to start, I invite you to first go through steps 1 and 2.
And after that, we can actually start taking action! Only now, in step 3. Otherwise, we might only be able to make small, specific changes that won't last because we can't sustain them.
We need a plan. Without a plan and good organization, it's quite difficult to take any measures and stick to them.
After observing our carbon footprint, mathematically calculated, and after carefully observing what a typical day in our lives looks like, we can start making changes, initially in small steps. Which we gradually increase.
Only then do I believe we can make these adjustments – what can I change, how often – only if we superimpose rigid, statistical data, such as the carbon footprint calculation, onto on-the-ground observation. In our daily lives.
I believe this is the key to finding balance. The choices, the changes, must be conscious. I can give this up, but not that yet.
You know how it's said, the best diet is the one you can stick to. Because ultimately, that's what this is about, a different lifestyle, not something I do once or twice and that's it, I've done my duty! I planted a tree, okay, I'm fine. I recycled a plastic bottle once, that's enough. It's clear that lifestyle cannot change overnight, and anyone who tries to make you feel guilty for not doing it faster—for not giving up your car tomorrow, or eating eggs and meat, or having children—either doesn't know what they're talking about or has hidden intentions. Such as, for example, some corporations, which, to camouflage their own carbon footprint—which is already hundreds and thousands of times greater than all of ours combined—might attempt this type of communication, through which they make us, people, feel guilty about our lifestyle.
Let's remember, therefore, that changes that persist over time and are embraced, assumed, that do not bring other problems, such as mental health issues, family conflicts, or whatever else, cannot be made overnight.
So, good luck! Keep your chin up! There's a lot to do. But we don't have to do it all at once. That's why I created the website eEco.ro, to accompany you on this journey toward a more responsible life, to bring together new ideas and, especially, a community of people who share the same values and the same common goal: to have a future. With plants, trees, potable water, and little birds.
