Reducing Food Waste
Law No. 49/2024 for amending and supplementing Law No. 217/2016 on reducing food waste, published in the Official Gazette, Part I no. 225 of March 18, 2024, entered into force on March 21, 2024. The law regulates ensuring the fulfillment of sustainable development objectives assumed at European and international level by Romania, regarding the prevention and reduction of food waste. The purpose of this law is to establish measures for the prevention and reduction of food waste and related promotional actions, with a view to increasing the use and recovery of food throughout the agri-food chain. The main provisions refer to the obligations of economic operators in the agri-food sector to fulfill their objective of reducing food waste.
